Blue Fins101 - Introduction to Swim Meet Sign-ups


Signing up for swim meets is easy on our website! Families must be logged into their account in order to view the events and sign-up.

1.       What meets are the BlueFins attending this season?

  • The current season’s master meet schedule is found in a sub-menu (Year Schedule) under a top menu item “Meets / Events.”
  • Type of meet and target group are listed in the schedule.
  • Click on “info” link to go to specific event listing on the BF’s website.
  • Meet specifics and the host club’s meet announcement will be posted as information becomes available.
  • Refer to website resource – Swim Meet Explanation – for a review of the types of meets offered.

2.       What pools are used for swim meets?

  • Many of the meets are local; some require travel. Location is posted in each meet announcement.

3.       How do swimmers sign-up for upcoming meets?

  • After meet information and events have been uploaded to the website, the meet will be opened for sign-up and an email invitation with sign-up link sent to active members.
  • The meet announcement contains all details regarding the meet, including the date(s), session time(s), age groups, and events, as well as event limits and qualiyfing times (if any) are made available to reference.
  • Note – the BlueFins sign-up deadline will be several days BEFORE the host club’s deadline to allow for administrative processing and submission to the host.  All BlueFins swimmers’ entries are submitted as one package.
  • Questions may be left in the “notes” field within the meet sign-up or directed to a coach as needed.

4.       How are events selected for swimmers?

  • Swimmers/Families select events for the majority of swim meets at the time of sign-up.
  • Coaches select events for some smaller dual meets for 12&U swimmers.
  • When in doubt, please talk to your swimmer’s lead coach. Emails are listed in each meet event on the website.

5.       Are there fees for swim meets?

  • Some smaller dual meets have a nominal fee.
  • Invitational and Championship Meets have a deck (entry) fee plus individual event and relay fees. These vary by meet and are posted in each meet announcement.
  • The Club includes payment for meet fees when submitting entries. Fees are posted to family accounts and billed to credit card on file on the first day of each month.
  • The Club charges an additional team meet fee for participating BlueFins swimmers for each meet.

6.       Where are results posted?

  • Once validated, meet results are posted on the Niagara LSC website, under the current year's calendar, and are uploaded into the BlueFins website and the SportsEngine Motion mobile platform for member viewing.
  •  Registered BlueFins are required to be members of USA Swimming. Official swim results are maintained in USA Swimming’s SWIMS database and may be viewed by swimmers by logging into their SWIMS account or on the USA Swimming website under Individual Times Search.

7.       Need help signing up?

  •  Contact Coach DJ or your swimmer's lead coach (listed in each meet event on the website) for assistance.

8.       Get Acquainted Meet

  • The BlueFins offers a fun, Get Acquainted Meet for all swimmers in the fall to help acclimate new swimmers and parents to the meet process. You won’t want to miss this!
  • All new swimmers are encouraged to be part of this club event so they can learn what being in a meet is like.  All returning swimmers, including girls currently with their HS teams, are strongly encouraged to attend to assist the learning process for their new teammates.
  • Parents may try a different volunteer position at this meet.
